Army Men: Major Malfunction, była drugą grą Army Men stworzoną przez Global Software i miała służyć jako restart serii, ale jej negatywny odbiór i sprzedaż spowodowały anulowanie tych planów.

Głównym bohaterem jest żołnierz o imieniu szeregowiec Anderson, którego przydzielono do walki z wrogiem o imieniu Major Malfunction (ukłon w stronę filmu Full Metal Jacket, w którym instruktor musztry pyta jednego z bohaterów: „Jaka jest twoja główna awaria, kretynie?”).
Hawk zostaje schwytany i zabity przez niego. Gra zebrała w dużej mierze negatywne recenzje, chociaż pod względem graficznym jest uważana za „najlepiej wyglądającą” grę z serii.
Gra wyróżnia się także znacznie bardziej komediowym tonem niż poprzednia część, a prawie wszystkie postacie złoczyńców są oparte na kalamburach i/lub postaciach z popkultury istotnych w momencie premiery gry, takich jak Kill Bill, Transformers, HALO i G.I Joe zamiast tradycyjnego złoczyńcy typowego dla serii Army Men.
