Wydana przez niego płyta przyniosła kolejne przebojowe single, w tym „You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You” a także duety z Emeli Sande i Naughty Boy'em. Także w Polsce pokryła się platyną i James zagrał tu kilka wyprzedanych tras koncertowych. James wraca mocno doświadczony przez życie i znacznie bardziej dorosły - niebojący się krytyki i pewien tego, czego chce w życiu.

Płyta „Back from the Edge” jest też znacznie bardziej zaangażowana – James brał udział w każdym etapie jej powstawania, od kompozycji po ostatnie szlify aranżacyjne. Różnorodna – to najlepsze określenie muzyki, jaką tu znajdziemy – soul, rock czy hip-hop w wykonaniu Jamesa sprawdza się zawsze.
