Sony Classical zaprasza do wysłuchania 4 płytowego albumu William Steinberg - Boston Symphony Orchestra - The Complete RCA Victor Recordings.
Gdy William Steinberg został mianowany dyrektorem muzycznym Boston Symphony w 1969 roku, jako następca Ericha Leinsdorfa, osiągnął szczyt swojej kariery. Żaden z dotychczasowych dyrygentów nie prowadził jednocześnie dwóch orkiestr z pierwszej dziesiątki w USA.

Warunkiem jego bostońskiej posady było kontynuowanie pracy w Pittsburghu z orkiestrą, którą kierował od 1952 roku.

Współpraca Steinberga i Bostonu z RCA była niestety niefortunna i krótkotrwała. Spadająca sprzedaż i rosnące koszty, nękające amerykański przemysł fonograficzny skłoniły RCA do wygaszenia kontraktu z Boston Symphony po 52 latach współpracy. Peter Quantrill z magazynu "Gramophone " uznał w 2018 roku Steinberga za "najbardziej niedocenionego z wielkich dyrygentów drugiej połowy ubiegłego wieku".
