Wielki angielski organista E. Power Biggs był absolwentem Royal Academy of Music w Londynie, jednakże swój sukces odniósł na ziemi amerykańskiej, gdzie prowadził niezwykle intensywną działalność koncertową. Od 1942 do 1958 roku prowadził swój cotygodniowy program radiowy, w którym przedstawiał muzykę organową, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem epoki baroku. Programy te spotkały się z ogromnym zainteresowaniem radiosłuchaczy. Dla American Columbia nagrał szeroki repertuar, (obejmujący np. utwory Scotta Joplina), ze szczególna atencją dla dzieł J S. Bacha.

Przez całe swe życie, poszukując autentyczności, niestrudzony Biggs odwiedzał miejsca w Holandii, północnych Niemczech, Anglii, Francji, Włoszech, Hiszpanii i Szwajcarii, gdzie mieszkali i tworzyli wielcy organiści - kompozytorzy epoki renesansu i baroku. W latach 1961-1970 Columbia dokonała rejestracji tych wykonań w serii "Historic Organs of Europe". Odnajdziemy tam dzieła Bacha, Buxtehudego, Couperina, Dunstable' a, Frescobaldiego, Andrei i Giovanniego Gabrieli, Purcella, Solera, Sweelincka, Tallisa i wielu innych.
