W 2006 roku wzięła udział w brytyjskiej edycji programu X Factor, a jeszcze przed zwycięskim wieczorem Simon Cowell powiedział "niewykluczone, że mamy do czynienia z następczynią Whitney Houston". W grudniu 2006 roku, krótko po wygranej w programie ukazał się jej świąteczny singiel "A Moment Like This", który dotarł na szczyt UK Charts. Piosenkę ściągnęło ponad 50 tysięcy fanów w przeciągu zaledwie 30 minut. Leona nagle stała się najlepiej sprzedająca się debiutantką w historii, porównywano ją do Houston i Mariah Carey.

Jej album "Spirit" dowodzi, że Leona ma swoje własne, niepowtarzalne brzmienie. Na albumie znalazł się mega przebój "Bleeding Love", który był #1 w Wielkiej Brytanii.
