Będąc inspiracją dla kilku pokoleń współczesnych wokalistek (Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Alicia Keys), wydała prawie 50 płyt, została przyjęta w poczet „Rock’N’Roll Hall Of Fame”, uhonorowano ją 18 statuetkami nagród Grammy, a przebój „Respect” nie opuszcza TOP5 listy utworów wszechczasów magazynu The Rolling Stone. Jesienią 2014 postanowiła zadziwić wszystkich i wydać zupełnie nowy album studyjny: „Aretha Franklin Sings The Greatest Diva Classics”.

Na płycie znajdują się zarówno największe współczesne przeboje (covery m.in. Adele, Alicii Keys, Destiny’s Child) jak i klasyki muzyki współczesnej, oryginalnie śpiewane przez Sinead O’Connor, Barbrę Streisand czy Whitney Houston i Chakę Kahn.
