Nowy album Davida Gilmoura "Luck and Strange" nagrywany był przez pięć miesięcy w Brighton i Londynie, jest to jego pierwszy nowy materiał od dziewięciu lat. Za produkcję odpowiedzialni są David i Charlie Andrew, którzy są najbardziej znani ze swojej współpracy z ALT-J i Mariką Hackman, a teksty napisała głównie Polly Samson - wcześniejsza współautorka Gilmoura przez ostatnie trzydzieści lat. Płyta "Luck and Strange" zawiera osiem nowych utworów oraz przeróbkę The Montgolfier Brothers "Between Two Points" z udziałem Romany Gilmour, która w nim zaśpiewała i zagrała na harfie. Pozostali muzycy, którzy wzięli udział w tym projekcie to Guy Pratt i Tom Herbert na basie; Adam Betts, Steve Gadd i Steve DiStanislao na perkusji; Rob Gentry i Roger Eno na klawiszach. Aranżacje smyczkowe i chóralne są autorstwa Willa Gardnera.
