Sony Classical ma zaszczyt zaprezentować album "Beyond the Screen - Film Works on Piano", brytyjskiej pianistki I cenionej kompozytorki Muzyki filmowej Rachel Portman.
Artystka ta miała decydujący wpływ na świat filmu i muzyki w ostatnich latach. Jest pierwszą kompozytorką, która zdobyła Oscara w 1997 roku za ścieżkę dźwiękową do filmu "Emma" i otrzymała dwie kolejne nominacje do Oscara za "The Cider House Rules" i "Chocolat", a także nagrodę Emmy za muzykę do filmu "Bessie".

Urodzona w West Sussex w Anglii, Portman zaczęła komponować w wieku 14 lat, a następnie studiowała muzykę na Uniwersytecie Oksfordzkim. Jest autorką oprawy muzycznej do ponad 100 filmów I spektakli teatralnych, a także opery, opartej na "Małym księciu" Saint-Exupéry'ego (2003) skomponowanej dla Houston Grand Opera. Zmiany klimatyczne zainspirowały Portman do napisania na zamówienie BBC Proms "The Water Diviner' s Tale" (2007), dramatycznej symfonii chóralnej. Regularnie współpracowała z uznanym pisarzem Sir Michaelem Morpurgo, z którym wspólnie napisali kolędę "We were there" (2014) dla Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra i Youth Chorus. "Endangered" (2012) to utwór orkiestrowy zamówiony przez National Centre for the Performing Arts w Pekinie na koncert z okazji Światowego Dnia Ochrony Środowiska w 2013 roku.
